Water Heater Repair & Replacement
Most water heater failures happen in winter and most owners face the same choice: repair the existing unit or replace. We give you both numbers, including a fair-replacement comparison and rebate-eligible options. Replacements include tank, tankless, and heat-pump water heaters — the last category is the one that qualifies for federal and WA state rebates.

FAQ
Water Heater Repair & Replacement questions
- Q.01How long does a typical water-heater replacement take?
- Tank-to-tank replacements are usually a same-day job once parts are on the truck. Tankless and heat-pump conversions take longer because of electrical and venting work. We quote the schedule along with the price.
- Q.02Are heat-pump water heaters worth it?
- In PNW garages and unconditioned basements where they have airflow, yes — they cut energy use by roughly two-thirds versus standard electric tanks. Federal IRA and WA state rebates often offset the higher install cost. We size them honestly; they don't fit every install.
- Q.03Can you fix mine instead of replacing?
- Sometimes. If the unit is under 8 years old and the failure is a thermocouple, igniter, or element, the repair usually makes sense. Older units or tank failures (rust-through, leaks from the tank itself) cannot be repaired — the tank itself has to be replaced.
